1. Choose a Legal Niche

If you are new to the blogosphere, you would probably wonder what a niche is. A niche is like a category, a specific segment of the blogging space concerned with a particular type of content. There are plenty of them when it comes to blogging for lawyers.

Your niche will decide what you write in your blog and who the audience is. Your audience can be anyone, including people in the legal practice. So how do you choose a niche and what niches are there for legal blogs?

1. Identifying your Interest and Expertise

You would want to blog on something you’re interested in or have mastered, or both. You may not enjoy maintaining a blog you have zero interest in.

If you work for a law firm and want to create a blog for it you could focus on the aspect of law your firm specializes in. You could then capitalize on your expertise and appeal to your client’s needs.

So look in and around yourself to find what you do best as a lawyer. Once you’ve found those things, make a list and then go to the next step.

2. Choose a Specific Topic

Once you’ve figured out what things you’re really into and made a list, it’s decision time. What you pick should matter to you and the folks reading your stuff!

Think about whether the people you’re talking to would care about what you want to write. Also, consider if there are a lot or just a few people interested in that particular topic. Do some online digging to learn more about your chosen topic and what it’s like to write blogs about it..

3. Examples of Blog Niches

Some popular blog niches that you may have an interest in are:

  • Legal Updates and Trends
  • Ethics in Law
  • Legal Technology
  • Criminal Law
  • Business Law
  • Corporate Law
  • Legal Career Advice
  • Personal Injury
  • Intellectual Property
  • Family Law

2. Find a Blog Name

Finding the right name for your legal blog is crucial. Consider these tips:

1. Hint at Your Niche

Your blog name should give readers a glimpse into your legal focus. For instance, if your niche is intellectual property, consider a name like “IPInsights” or “TrademarkTrends.”

2. Keep it Short and Simple

Pick a short and easy blog name that’s unique, has less than four words, and is simple to spell and say, with no numbers or fancy symbols. To help people remember, include a common keyword from your niche. This will also improve your blog’s visibility as people searching for the keyword may happen upon your blog.

3. Make it Scalable

Choose a name that allows your blog to grow. If you start with a focus on criminal law, a scalable name could be “LegalInsightsHub” to encompass various legal topics as your blog expands.

If you have a law firm or work for one, you could also name the blog after the law firm. This will be ideal for branding and marketing purposes.

4. Use a Blog Name Generator

If you’re still struggling to find the right blog name, try a blog name generator like the Business Name Generator. Enter keywords like “legal,” “law,” and “justice,” and let it suggest some great blog names for you.

5. Legal Blog Name to Avoid Legal Trouble

Another important piece of advice is to make sure that your blog name is unique! If it already exists, you can’t use it.

You should also be careful not to use a name that is trademarked already even if it is not for a blog since this can cause you to go into legal trouble. Not that I don’t trust your skills as a lawyer but it’s best to avoid the stress.

3. Host Your Legal Blog and Install WordPress

A blog is a website too, which means it needs to find a place on the internet. A blog needs a platform and a host to be available on the internet.

Consider your blog to be a person who is relocating to the new city of the World Wide Web. They will need a house (a blogging platform) and that house needs to be on a plot of land (Host).

The best blogging platform to use is WordPress and it can be hosted by a hosting provider called Bluehost. I’m now going to show you how to host your WordPress blog on Bluehost

1. You start by going to Bluehost and on the homepage you drag the cursor to WordPress and choose WordPress Hosting.

An “About Us” page is essential to introduce yourself. It is the best place to show the people behind the blog, managing it or writing content and boasting about their qualifications. You will earn the trust and credibility of your potential clients by showing the expertise and experience of you and your team.
